Codrongianos
Church of the Holy Cross
The Church of the Holy Cross is found in the lower part of the historic centre of Codrongianos, at a short distance from the Church of Saint Paul and the Town Council. The church is in Romanesque style and it seems to have been built in 1200 AD. The façade is simple, of a light yellow colour, and over the wooden portal there is a barred opening. The double pitched roof is surmounted by a tiny cross. There is a bell tower with a polygonal top and a clock on the right. The inside of the building has a single nave with wooden benches, two small lateral chapels and a marble altar. The canvass painted by the Florentine exile Baccio Gorini is of great importance. He was active in Sassari and Northern Sardinia starting from 1604. The church is home to the Oratory of the Holy Cross and for centuries has been the home of the Confraternity of the Holy Cross.
