Codrongianos
Ce.Do.C. Documentary Research Centre of Codrongianos
The Documentary Research Centre of Codrongianos, or Ce.Co.C., is found in a building with an architectural style of the early 20th century, commonly known as the Pinacoteca, Art Gallery, and it exhibits the artistic works of the community of Codrongianos. Among these, of particular interest are pictorial retables (tn* an ornamental screenlike structure above and behind an altar, especially one used as a setting for a religious picture or carving). They are from the end of the 15th and 16th century, originally located in the abbey of the Holy Trinity of Saccargia and belonging to the Archdiocese of Torres. The Major retable dates back to 1946 and was attributed to the works of the painter Juan Barcelo from Tortosa, Spain. The theme that inspired the Minor Retable is that of the Holy Trinity and of the Annunciation, and is ascribed to the Sardinian painter Giovanni Muru, author of the dais of the retable of the church in Ardara, dating back to 1515. The building, renovated thanks to an intervention of the Town Council of Codrongianos and the Region of Sardinia, is mainly used as a museum; some rooms are dedicated to shows and temporary exhibitions and others are used as laboratories. The building is a centre that documents the history of the territory through multimedia and technological communication. The Documentary Research Centre of Codrongianos, or Ce.Co.C., hosts three sections: the Medieval section dedicated to the monastic settlement of Saccargia and the life, society and economy of the villages of the territory in Medieval Sardinia; the Historical section where you can find the archive’s documents and historical papers relating to the town of Codrongianos and its territory between 1800 and 1900; and finally, the Historical-Artistic section that preserves the paintings, mainly of the 17th and 18th centuries, donated to the parish of Saint Paul by the Canon Sanna Obino, along with antique copies of famous paintings by Raffaello and Guido Reni.
The Documentary Research Centre of Codrongianos, or Ce.Co.C., will be subject to renovation work as per the Program “Programmazione Territoriale Coros-Anglona, Terre di tradizione”, that is “Coros-Anglona Land of Traditions, Territorial Programming”. Specifically, the intervention includes fixing the roof, the installation of a dehumidifier for the safeguard of the paintings, upgrading of the video surveillance system and setting of lights to enhance the visitors’ cultural experience and increase accessibility to the museum to 360°.
