Nuraghe Mannu
The nuraghe Mannu (tn* large megalithic, tower-shaped, prehistoric stone structures found in Sardinia, dating from the second millennium BC to the Roman conquest) is located in the highest part of the residential area of Olmedo and still has its circular chamber, today filled with stone due to a massive collapse that has compromised the original structure. It is an imposing monument with a single tower in a dominant position. The monument is entirely made of trachyte and the circular chamber is still complete to the height of its niches. It is characterised by a tholos roof (a false dome), consisting of concentric rings of stone laid one over the other, and its residual height is about six metres. Its circumference, about eleven metres, falls into the category of medium dimensions normally found in a nuraghe. We cannot exclude the pre-existence of an upper chamber, which today is not visible, that would imply a total height of no less than twelve metres. The area is property of the Town Council and the operations of weeding and cleaning allow structures such as huts and parts of the fortified wall to be highlighted. Lacking data from digs, the construction of the building can be dated back to 1500 BC – 100 BC. The monument is easily accessible.
