Sa Perda Longa
The site of Sa Perda Longa (“The Long Rock”, in Sardinian), is located in a field with the same name, a few kilometres from the town of Uri. In the past it was the front part of a nuragic Tomb of the Giants, dating back to the Middle Bronze Age, circa 1700-1350 BC (tn* “The Tombs of the Giants” were a type of Sardinian megalithic collective gallery grave, built during the Bronze Age by the Nuragic civilization). Of the original monument, only the monolithic curved stele remains, formed from a single slab of stone. Because of its type and modest dimensions, it has been dated to ancient times. The upper part of the stele and the surface of the stone are quite worn. Along its profile and in the middle, the curved part has a bas-relief frame all around it, separating it from the square underneath, where the entrance door to the burial chamber is located. At the top of the stele three holes can still be seen, probably reserved for the placement of small baetylus, elongated stones of sacred and symbolic value. Of the funerary chamber, probably with a long rectangular shape, no trace remains, just a low mound. Fragments of ceramic material scattered around the monument attest the frequentation of the area. The site is located inside private property at the moment, but it is accessible.
