Casa Derosas: The Derosas house
The Derosas house is an old stately home that dates back to the end of the 19th century, today home to an important documentation centre, located in via Roma, the main street in Usini. The building was once home to one of the main land owners of the town and first mayor of Usini, Achille Derosas. The house was built with two floors, in addition to the cellars, by a workforce from Bosa. It has some impressive architectural elements, including a niche decorated with arches, located at the entrance. In the many rooms inside, there is an old rustic kitchen, service rooms, dormitories, visitor rooms and a studio decorated with antique paintings. At the back of the building there is a terrace and a small backyard. The frescoes located in one of the receiving rooms are of considerable interest, portraying mythological scenes. These were a wedding gift to the landlady from her uncle. The house, later bought by the town Council of Usini, is now the home of the “Centro documentale casa Derosas”, a documentation centre run by the cultural association “Associazione Culturale Sardòs”. Inside there is evidence and artefacts of a rich heritage telling the story of customs and traditional costumes of the local community. Female traditional costumes are displayed and can be admired, together with some everyday objects, from a loom to kitchen tools.
